MgA. Lucie Kralova, Ph.D. is film director, screenwriter, script and post-production editor, and lecturer (assistant professor at FAMU), focused on creative documentary filmmaking for more than 15 years. Lucie graduated from humanities at Charles University (2000) and from documentary directing at FAMU (Academy of Performing Arts in Prague – Film and TV School), (2006).

Her films, often filmed on 16mm material, were screened in numerous international film festivals and cinemas worldwide and got several awards (e.g. two times price for Best Czech Documentary Film at IDFF Jihlava for her films “Ill-fated Child” and “Sold” or Crystal Globe for best feature documentary at A-category at IFF Karlovy Vary, Special Mention at Milano International Film Festival Best Documentary at Banja Luka IFF and others).

She cooperates also as script and post-production editor (dramaturgist) with leading Czech directors as Vít Klusák, David Jařab, Jan Daňhel, Adam Olha and others. Lucie cooperates with various independent producers and Czech TV. Besides filmmaking, she explores the influence of institutional mechanisms of TV on creative processes within the field of documentary film. In her PhD thesis “Understanding television”, the ethnography-based research of Czech TV production culture, Lucie critically focuses on concepts of dramaturgy, author and genre within contemporary practices of documentary filmmaking.
